Swirled Murano Glass Pendant Light, Italy 1980s
A stunning, hand blown Italian Murano glass pendant light with brass fixture. This mid-century style features a translucent and almond-colored swirled glass shade, softly rippled to echo the flaring of a woman's skirt as she dances. The glass is 0.5" thick with a clear brim. Handmade in Italy, circa 1980s.
MURANO (est. 13th century) is a Venetian island renowned for its long tradition of glass-making. Today it is famed for its luxury, artistic glass and its storied history of innovations in glass-forming techniques. Credited with making the finest glass in the world, Murano glassmakers developed a white-colored glass, known as lattimo or "milk glass," that looks like porcelain, and a nearly transparent glass, known as cristallo, often considered the finest glass in the world.
