Murano 'Torciglione' Glass Chandelier by Mazzega, Italy 1970s
A rare and beautiful Italian Murano glass chandelier attributed to Mazzega. The fixture is comprised of 53 individual hand-blown 'Torciglione' glass spirals, which perch upon a three-tier brass frame. Each spiral showcases a skillfull combination of transparent and lattimo (opaque "milk glass") colored glass. The frame and wiring was inspected by Underwriter's Laboratories before distribution in the U.S. This sticker can be found on the interior of the fixture.
MAZZEGA (est. 1946) was founded by Gianni Bruno Mazzega in 1946. Driven by a deep conceptual and artistic vision, and a mission of keeping the Murano tradition alive, Mazzega sought to revive century-old, traditional glass-making methods. Over the course of its history, it has become a leader in the global market of luxury and artistic lighting. Each creation is turned into an extraordinary glass sculpture by the skilled hands of master artisans, many from the Fucina degli Angeli, which included in its ranks European masters such as Marc Chagall, Pablo Picasso, Georges Braque, Gio Ponti, Jean Cocteau, Fulvio Bianconi, and Carlo Scarpa. Designers for Mazzega have included Loredano Rosin, Toni Zuccheri, and Aldo & Carlo Nason.
