Pair of Lucite & Chrome 'Pretzel' Candlesticks by Dorothy Thorpe, 1960s

Pair of Lucite & Chrome 'Pretzel' Candlesticks by Dorothy Thorpe, 1960s

A pair of Dorothy Thorpe lucite and chrome "Pretzel" candlesticks. Crafted from translucent lucite with a cylindrical chrome mouth and bobeches, these twisting and sinuous candleholders represent one of her most celebrated and instantly recognizable designs. A beautiful and elegant piece of modern design history that pairs just as well with today's contemporary styles.

DOROTHY THORPE (1901 - 1989) was a mid-century American artist celebrated for her timeless and modern glassware and tableware. She was born in Salt Lake City and graduated from the University of Utah before settling in Glendale, CA in the 1930s, eventually opening a studio in Los Angeles. Thorpe created some of the mid-century's most cherished designs for household items, often selling in high-end department stores across the U.S. Her clean, modern designs were recently revived by the television show Mad Men.
